CHURCH LIFE
We are a vibrant church with a large number of groups meeting in our halls and enjoying fellowship. You can find further details about all these groups below.
Guild

Our Guild meets fortnightly, with a usual attendance of around 30.
We enjoy a varied programme of speakers and outings, and host two coffee mornings each year, with stalls selling crafts, plants and produce to support the Church of Scotland Guild projects as well as local projects.
The Guild meets at 2pm every second Thursday at St Leonard’s church hall from October to December 2026, then from St Mark’s hall from January to April 2027.
Please contact Marie Robinson, Secretary, for further details.
Bump to Fives

Bump to Fives is a weekly group providing play and socialisation for babies and toddlers, as well as support and friendship for parents, grandparents and carers. It is organised and staffed by a team of church volunteers who provide refreshments, listening ears, and extra pairs of hands.
Bump to Fives meets from 10am to 11.30am on Fridays during term time at St Leonard’s church hall.
Please email cstl@standrewsnewkirk.org for further details.
Encounter

A social group for members and their friends which runs from October to June with trips to the theatre, putting, walks, talks and quiz nights – something for all!
The Encounter group meets at 7.30pm on the second Thursday of the month in St Mark’s building. Meetings are listed in the Order of Service. Please contact Flora Falls or Muriel Gray via stm@standrewsnewkirk.org for further details.
Souper Friday

Souper Friday offers homemade soup, home-baked cakes, and a friendly welcome. There’s no charge but you are welcome to make a small donation which is donated to two charities in March each year. The charities are chosen by the happy band of volunteers.
Souper Friday meets from 12pm to 2pm from October to March in St Mark’s building. Please contact stm@standrewsnewkirk.org for further information.
Community Outreach

Our Community Outreach Worker, Georgiana, supports people across the community who are facing financial hardship while helping to reduce food waste by redistributing surplus produce from local supermarkets. She works closely with the Transition University of St Andrews Reuse Project and with other community organisations like Storehouse, Campus Larder, Eco Hub, Pilgrim Care, Food no Bombs.
Georgiana also hosts a Knit, Craft and Chat group creating opportunities for friendship, creativity, encouragement and connection for people who may be feeling lonely or isolated.
The Knit, Craft and Chat group meet at 1pm to 3pm on Tuesdays at St Leonard’s church. Please contact georgiana@mazilu.net for further details about Community Outreach or the Kint, Craft and Chat group.
The Carpet
Bowling Club

The Carpet Bowling Club, established in 1958, meets every week throughout the winter to enjoy non-competitive games.
A tea break provides an opportunity to chat to other members. All abilities are welcome, especially if you have not tried bowling before. The membership fee is £10 for six months.
The Carpet Bowling Club meets from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesdays from September to April at St Leonard’s church hall. Please contact Ken Morris or Evelyn Grieve via cstl@standrewsnewkirk.org for further information.
The Memory Café

The Memory Café meets twice a month and is led by our Memory Café worker, Tara, alongside volunteers from the church and University. There’s an engaging programme for people with memory difficulties to come along with their companion, and for people aged 65+ who live alone or are isolated. Activities include music, storytelling, games and painting to stimulate memories. Tea, coffee and home baking are provided too.
The Memory Café meets from 2pm to 3.30pm on the first and third Wednesday of the month in Hope Park Hall upstairs in the St Mark’s building. Please email Tara Glenn or call 07762 741903 for further information.

St Andrews Churches
Eco Network

We are pleased to take an active role in this local ecumenical group, established in 2020. It is currently formed of representatives from six Christian worshipping communities across the town who work together to share, support and initiate environmental activities. Activities include, or have included walks with Fife Pilgrim Pastor, hedge planting, online Bible studies and promoting campaigns such as The Big Plastic Count. We have also made video, poetical and visual contributions to the Eco Congregation Scotland’s online Advent reflections and resources library.
Visit the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/standrewschurcheseconetwork/ for more information.
Scrabble nights

Scrabble nights have recently restarted. We play two games, usually in groups of 3 or 4 with a break for tea and coffee in the interval! All welcome!
Scrabble Nights are held from 7pm on the last Friday of the month in the Martyr’s Room at St Mark’s church. Meetings are listed in the Order of Service. Please contact Michael Dewhurst via stm@standrewsnewkirk.org
Pins and Needles

Pins and Needles is a friendly group which meets to knit, sew and crochet, and exchange ideas with members of our own and other local churches, members of the local community and visitors to the town. We would be delighted to pass on our skills to anyone wishing to learn any of these crafts. There is always lots of fun and laughter.
Some donate their work to charity, Mwandi Mission and N.E.Fife Social Work Department in particular, but others just like working on their own projects.
The Pins and Needles group meets from 7.30pm to 9pm fortnightly on Monday, in the Strathkinness room of St Mark’s building from late August until April. Meetings are listed in the Order of Service.
Please contact Margaret Thomson via stm@standrewsnewkirk.org for further details.
